The first inaugural Public Transport Users Forum took place in Coatham Memorial Hall last night.
Representatives from Arriva and regular users of the service came together to discuss problems and find ways of resolving them. The meeting was the first step in setting up a regular forum in which people will have the opportunity to speak directly to those who control the timetables!
Mary Ovens, deputy leader of the Liberal Democrat group and councillor for West Dyke ward chaired the meeting, with Josh Mason, Councillor for Zetland Ward taking the minutes.
Helen Mcluckie, the cabinet member with responsibility was unable to attend this meeting.
Josh said: ''This was an excellent first meeting with users and providers and I hope that this will continue at future meetings. The only way to resolve issues is to discuss them and find a way through that satisfies all parties, and that is exactly what I hope this forum will achieve. I hope that we will be able to make real progress for those who use public transport in Redcar and Cleveland''

All Aboard for public transport survey
Ian doing a survey on the bus
On August the 15th, local MP Ian Swales boarded the Number 64 bus, which travels across his constituency, to ask residents their opinions about public transport in Redcar and Cleveland.
The Number 64 travels through 13 of the 14 wards which Mr. Swales represents.
The survey asked residents questions about their travel habits and their opinions on the provision of public transport in the area.
People raised a variety of concerns including: access for the disabled and pushchairs on some older buses; cuts to some early morning, evening and weekend services; and disruptive behaviour both on buses and at stops.
Ian said:
"It was great to get out and about and talk to local people who rely on these services on a daily basis. I received a great response from people who were happy to have the opportunity to discuss these issues with me. I will be raising many of the issues brought to my attention with both Arriva and the local council.
"One of the issues raised most frequently was that the old cliché is true, people in Redcar and Cleveland are waiting around at length for one bus, only for three to turn up late and within minutes of each other."
He added:
"This survey is part of my wider aim to engage with local people on issues which directly affect them. I hope that by raising these concerns I will be able to help bring about positive changes for people in this area."
Ian is keen to hear from people across the Redcar constituency, which covers the area from Ormesby and South Bank, across Redcar to Marske and New Marske.
