Today (July 4th ) Ian Swales MP for Redcar met with Moya Greene, Chief Executive of Royal Mail Group, to discuss the proposed closure of the South Bank delivery office.
During the meeting they discussed the viability of the office, the needs of local residents and the difficulties Royal Mail faces in competing with new unregulated parcel and mail services allowed in by the last Labour Government.
Commenting, Ian Swales MP said:
'I was pleased to have this opportunity to take this issue right to the top of Royal Mail. I feel that the discussions went well and that Royal Mail are now aware of the needs of our area.
'I also hope to present a petition from local residents in Parliament soon to further highlight the local opposition to this change. I will keep doing what I can to ensure that we continue to have a good level of mail service in our area.'
