Local MP welcomes simplified payment cards at post offices

March 22, 2012 9:51 AM

Local MP, Ian Swales has today welcomed the introduction of a simple payment card that will come into force by Summer 2012.

The Government are introducing a Simple Payment Service, which will provide people who have problems remembering PIN numbers with an easier way of accessing their money. It is recognised by many that there are some people who struggle to remember their PIN number and this can cause embarrassment and even mean they cannot pay their bills when there is money there to pay it.

This new system will allow people to have a simple card, that they present at the counter where there are paypoints, and access their money without fear of forgetting their PIN number.

Ian commented: ''I have had several constituents tell me that they either have trouble remembering their PIN or they know someone who has trouble with this technology. I think it is really important for the Government to recognise that there are a wide range of ages and abilities using this service, and it should be made as accessible as possible''

''I am delighted to see that the Government have taken the initiative and made a simple form of withdrawing money from the post office without having to go through the embarrassment of forgetting your PIN number and I will be writing to my constituents who have contacted me on this issue to let them know the news''

If you are a resident of the Redcar constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
