On Saturday 4th September, Ian Swales jumped on his bike to ride a 14 mile cycle track that runs right through his Redcar Constituency and to join in with just one of the events that the Sustrans charity organised throughout the area that weekend. The aim of the ride was to raise awareness of this excellent cycle track right on our doorsteps and to encourage people to get out on their bikes.
Ian Swales said "When Phil Chisholm told me that the Dover to John O Groats long distance cycle route for the country passed through the Redcar constituency I just had to give that section a go. It was a truly enjoyable 14 mile ride and reminded me again how lucky we are to live in such a diverse and beautiful area. The sea views of Redcar and Marske, the beauty of Kirkleatham, the Eston hills and the hidden gem of the old green railway track running all the way from Normanby to South Bank were all a real pleasure. This route can and should be a magnet for tourism.''
''I hope that the Council will support Phil and his team and help to make the experience as good as possible for visitors. There's plenty of scope to tidy up the route and make it more attractive, one need is a simple campsite where cyclists could safely overnight while travelling through. I look forward to seeing cycling further develop in the area as a healthy, environmentally friendly way of getting around."
